Debate was the final event of the WIE WEEK edition, conducted by WIE affinity group of IEEE SB MESCE. It was conducted on the topic, “Women Empowerment: A Myth in countries like India” from front yard of the college auditorium on 9th March 2017 at 4:30pm.

The judges to the event were, Mr. Suneesh, Assistant Professor of Physics Dept, and Ms. Lakshmi, Teaching faculty of Life Skills. The Branch Counsellor of IEEE SB MESCE, Dr. Anzar SM, and WIE Staff Coordinator, Dr. Maya G, were also present at the venue.

The session was coordinated by Ms. Liyana Shirin, Secerataryof IEEE SB MESCE, and the participants of 20, were divided into two teams, where one of the teams stood FOR the motion of the topic and the other team AGAINST the motion. Debate was divided into three rounds marked by subsections of the main topic into three where the third round was the final one. A student volunteer from a respective team was given 1.5 minutes to express their views and comment on the ideas shared by their counterpart from the opposition.

The debate focused on both improvements and defects of the progress of women empowerment in India. The debate also showcased how well students were aware of the present scenarios of our society and the technically developing world which contributes highly into women empowerment.

Both the teams presented their parts well enough that the judges found it difficul t to select the best speakers from the event. After careful and lenient evaluation based on various criteria’s, Mishab from S6, EEE, was selected as the best speaker. Fadhil Basheer from, S4, CSE, and Raed Rafeek fromS6,ECE were selected as the runners up of the event.

WIE Week saw amassive turnout of student volunteers. We were able to instill insp iration and a sense of achievement in our SB members within this Week. Special appreciations were given to the volunteers who wrked hard throughout the Week.
