About the Award
The IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award was established to recognize exceptional power engineers for outstanding career-long contributions to the art and science of electric power engineering. This award may be presented once per year at a regularly scheduled IEEE Power & Energy Society meeting of the recipient’s choice. To ensure that it is presented to appropriately qualified recipients and to maintain the prestigious nature of the award, it may not be presented every year.

Award Details
Purpose:
To recognize exceptional power engineers for outstanding career-long contributions to the art and science of electric power engineering.
Prize:
$2,000, sculpture, and a travel stipend of up to $2,000 for recipient to attend the presentation ceremony.
Eligibility:
Candidate must have been in IEEE Power & Energy Society member in good standing for at least 10 years. No current member of the IEEE Board of Directors, the IEEE PES Governing Board, the IEEE PES Awards and Recognition Committee, the IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award Committee, or IEEE staff may be candidates, or nominate or endorse candidates for this award.
Presentation:
Presentation of the award shall be made by the PES President. May be presented once per year at a regularly scheduled IEEE Power & Energy Society meeting of the recipient’s choice. To ensure that it is presented to appropriately qualified recipients and to maintain the prestigious nature of the award, it may not be presented every year.
Selection:
Selection will be based on evaluation of accomplishments as revealed by published works, documented testimonials from industry colleagues, or other objective demonstrations of accomplishments over an extended period of work. Of particular importance is evidence of the candidate’s contributions to the knowledge base of power engineering profession, whether in research, teaching, product development, electric system design, or electric utility operations.
The IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award Committee will consist of at least three members including a chair. The chair will be appointed by the PES President and will serve no longer than 3 years. The two remaining members will be selected by the chair and will be subject to the approval of the PES Executive Committee. Initially, at least one non-chair member will serve a one year term, and another a two-year term. These two initial non-chair members shall be eligible for reappointment for an additional full three-year term following their initial terms. Thereafter, members will be appointed to three-year terms, and no Committee member shall serve for more than three years.
The IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award Committee will submit the results of its evaluation to the IEEE PES Awards and Recognition Committee for review and evaluation. If the IEEE PES Awards and Recognition Committee concurs with the recommendation of the IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award Committee, it will present the recommendation to the PES Governing Board for final PES approval.
Citation:
The citation may be proposed by the person originating the nomination. It will be reviewed and modified as appropriate by the IEEE Power & Energy Society Lifetime Achievement Award Committee. The IEEE PES Awards and Recognition Committee shall make the final decision on the wording of the citation.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Nomination forms must be written in English. One per year. If no suitable candidate is proposed in a given year, the award will not be presented for that year.
PES, being one of IEEE’s Organizational Units, follows IEEE Policy 4.4H:
- Eligibility and Process Limitations. Individuals serving on any board or committee involved at any stage of the recipient selection or approval process for an award shall be ineligible to receive, or act as a nominator or reference for that award. This conflict of interest limitation shall apply to all awards given by the IEEE or any of its organizational units
